Johann Georg Mayr, clock with dimensions of 120x120mm, made approx. in 1670 -1680. Square fire-gilded housing made of brass, edges decorated with silver ornaments, similarly to the upper surface of the housing. Glazed housing walls reveal the beauty of the mechanism construction. Silver dial with Roman numerals and a single engraved hour hand. Housing supported by four-disc legs. Mechanism in the form of a square, fire-gilded, richly decorated with floral engravings. Spring drive with springs of rate and strikes, rate mechanism resting on a chain and a fusee. Spindle escapement. Bottom plate with adjustable rate, smartly decorated with gilded ornaments and inscription Johann Georg Mayr. Bottom gilded cover contains a bell inset, presumably from a later period.
The clock is ticking, in very good condition, can be a valuable asset in the collection.
Johann Georg Mayr, watchmaker in Munich since 1662, made many table clocks with simple and astronomical, as well as musical, mechanisms. J.G. Mayr died in 1684. His clocks are stored in the Museum of Bavaria in Munich, museums in Vienna and Dresden, and also form part of the scientific literature.
The ring around the dial is very unusual, Atelier Tempus suggest that was probably added at a later date.
